The Community Center For People Sixty Or Better!
For several years, Wentworth Connections has offered a variety of popular programs and activities at the Parrott Avenue Center for people "60 or better." Due to funding issues, the Center will be closing at the end of December -- but many of the activities will continue.
- The Transportation Program will continue to operate as usual. The only change is that the office location will be moved from Parrott Avenue to The Mark Wentworth Home at 346 Pleasant St. This essential program is funded by several community partners, including the City of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Regional Hospital and the Mark Wentworth Home.
- The Day Program (for people with physical and cognitive impairments) will continue to operate at 127 Parrott Avenue for the forseeable future as we seek a means to ensure its viability. The Mark Wentworth Home will provide funding and management for that program.
- The Community Center classes such as Line Dancing, Tai Chi, RSVP Bone Builders, Strength & Balance, Chair Yoga and the twice-a-month Supper Club will be offered at a new facility operated by Living Innovations at 1950 Lafayette Road (the former site of the Casey Center). Cindi Shanley and Annie Jones will continue to coordinate these and other activities. Please click here for a schdule and detailed information.
The Parrott Avenue Center has been a vibrant community resource for several years -- and it will be sad to see it close as a multi-purpose senior center. However, with change comes fresh opportunity -- and we look forward to maintaining our connection with you in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Neal Ouellett, Living Innovations
